These are two variations of my original idea based on the feedback I got during class. I think conceptually the second one makes more sense with the figures running where the green light would be. Although, I also like the idea of the blood running directly out of the figures so I'm not sure which one to use. I am also playing with the idea of using a walk/ do not walk sign but I haven't figured out exactly how to incorporate that yet. Any feedback would be really helpful, especially suggestions about the layout.

  1. I really enjoy the first version. Though I would still play around with the secondary information, and maybe experiment with the typeface for the tag line as a sans serif? The font you have right now is just a little awkward-feeling next to your hand-lettering

  2. The first direction is starting to come together. I'd keep the bloody filled version of the bottom version, but silhouette the images out of that. I'd try black and red for the silhouettes. The pool of blood in the traffic signal works well.

Your secondary typeface is really ornate and complicated, and it's conflicting with your hand-drawn title. I'd increase the scale of the "2000" so that it tucks right under "Death Race".

For your title, when you scan it and take it into Photoshop, don't apply a halfton, but instead adjust the levels and use "50% Threshold", that way you won't lose the crispness of it and it will look more graphic.

Slogan positioning is handled nicely, and the overall composition is well considered, I'd just address the typestyle which isn't working well with your other elements.

  3. I had originally tried to just apply the bitmap to the image and keep the title separate but I couldn't figure out how to do that. Photoshop won't let me place it on top of the bitmap because the layer is locked. I tried placing the bitmap of the image in indeisgn and then bringing in the title but when I do that I can't get the background color of the page behind the title. Instead there is a white box. So basically I'm not really what to do.

  4. The street light turned out nice and I agree with Ryan's comments for the street light.

As for your photoshop troubles you need to erase the white background from your title and save it as a bitmap .tif. When you place it into InDesign you shouldn't see any background with it and you can select your bitmap .tif with the white arrow. Now you can apply any color to it.
    OR
You can also try and 'multiply' your title in InDesign, it might get rid of your white box that way.

  5. Also, your subtitle text has too much leading and focus overall. Have you tried a sans serif? I like the visuals of your "death race" and by choosing a non-descript sans serif, you'll let it shine more.
